"There are some people who live in a dream world,
and there are some who face reality;
and then there are those who turn one into the other."
Douglas Everett

A very foggy day in the National Forest, was hoping to spot an owl, or other animal in the deep mist.

This photo will be in the March 2008 print edition of National Geographic.

Autumn Walk
There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country. A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo. Even a bicycle goes too fast.

About this photo:
Lynchburg Virginia is interlaced with a series of interior trails. This is part of one near Hollins Mill Road. It is interesting that you can have a trail system that takes you right to nature in the middle of the city. We almost missed this sighting of the Blue Heron below. The friend I was walking with noticed it right at the time we were packing it in. What a pleasant surprise it was. While setting up hoping to get an in flight image, a man who was struggling with his dog came down the trail scaring the bird, before I was set up. You can't be lucky all the time.

Simply look
 “Simply look with perceptive eyes at the world about you, and trust to your own reactions and convictions. Ask yourself: "Does this subject move me to feel, think and dream? Can I visualize a print - my own personal statement of what I feel and want to convey - from the subject before me?”
 Ansel Adams  (American Photographer, 1902-1984)

This is really best seen large, I dare you to take a peek.
